芦原建築設計研究所は芦原義信により1956年に設立され、日本のモダニズム建築を代表する多くの設計を手掛けてまいりました。2017年には300もの建築作品や芦原義信の活動資料約20万点を納めた＜芦原義信建築資料アーカイブ＞が武蔵野美術大学に完成し、建築設計業務を終了させ、＜芦原太郎建築事務所＞に対して事業譲渡を行いました。
芦原義信の建築に向けた思いを次世代に継承することを目指し、大学院で建築を学ぶ学生の海外研究旅行を支援する＜街並みの美学トラベルスカラシップ＞など活動を展開してまいりました。今後は、芦原義信の町並み研究の継承と展開をはかる＜街並みの美学＞研究、建築文化の継承に向けた「芦原義信デジタルアーカイブス」の公開を展開してゆきます。

Ashihara Architect & Associates was established in 1956 by Yoshinobu Ashihara, and it has been undertaking many architectural designs that represent Japan’s modern architecture. In 2017, the “Yoshinobu Ashihara Architectural Archives,” which stores approximately 200,000 items related to the activities of Yoshinobu Ashihara and up to 300 works of architecture, was completed at the Musashino Art University. We concluded our architectural design work and transferred the business to “Taro Ashihara Architects.”
We aim to pass on Ashihara's architectural spirit to future generations, and we deployed “The Aesthetic Townscape” research to conduct and succeed Yoshinobu Ashihara’s townscape research. The operation of “The Aesthetic Townscape Travel Scholarship,” among others, is an activity to support future generations. We will keep developing the “Yoshinobu Ashihara Digital Archives” toward the success of architectural culture.

1918年東京に生まれる。東京大学工学部建築学科卒業後、ハーバード大学大学院で修士号（M.Arch.）取得。1956年、芦原義信建築設計研究所（後に芦原建築設計研究所と改称）を設立。建築設計の傍ら、法政大学教授、武蔵野美術大学教授、東京大学教授を歴任。日本建築家協会会長、日本建築学会会長を務める。工学博士、東京大学名誉教授、日本芸術院会員、勲二等瑞宝章受章、文化勲章受章。
2003年9月24日没。85歳。

Born in Tokyo, Ashihara graduated from the University of Tokyo and received his master's degree in architecture from Harvard University. In 1956, he established his own firm Yoshinobu Ashihara Architect and Associates. He was professor at Hosei University, Musashino Art University, and University of Tokyo and served as president of the Japan Institute of Architects and also of the Architectural Institute of Japan.
He received his doctoral degree from the University of Tokyo and was later appointed Honorary Professor there. He was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure and the Order of Culture.

1950年東京生まれ。東京芸術大学美術学部建築科卒業、東京大学大学院建築学修士課程修了。芦原建築設計研究所勤務を経て、1985年、芦原太郎建築事務所設立。2001年より芦原建築設計研究所代表を兼務。
2010年より2016年まで日本建築家協会会長を務め、国際交流や建築やまちづくりに向けた社会活動を精力的に行い、AIAアメリカ建築家協会をはじめとした諸外国建築家協会の名誉会員となり、 国土交通大臣表彰を受ける。

Born in Tokyo, Ashihara graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts and received his master's degree in architecture from the University of Tokyo. Worked Yoshinobu Ashihara Architect and Associates, he established his own firm, Taro Ashihara Architects, in 1985. From 2001, he also holds the director of the Yoshinobu Ashihara Architect and Associates.
From 2010 to 2016, Taro Ashihara served as the president of the Japan Institute of Architects (JIA) and was actively involved in social activities directed at community development, architecture, and international cultural exchange. He also became an honorary member of other foreign architect associations, starting with the AIA American Institute of Architects. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism of Japan commended him.
